Description

Our eagles are made of stamped metal with attaching loops on back. Approximately 3″ wide and 2″ high.

In 1821 the 3-inch Eagle was established as the primary cap insignia for all branches of service. Army regulations published in 1821 prescribed for the caps of all company officers and enlisted personnel a “yellow eagle in front, three inches between the tips of the wings” At first, the color of all Army cap insignia was supposed to be “yellow” brass in accordance with regulations in effect since 1815. Infantry eagles were changed to white metal in 1822, and remained so until the 1832 regulations returned them to brass. Light Artillery dress caps displayed the traditional 3-inch eagles until after the Civil War. This is a variant as there were many styles introduced during this period.
