Description
Faithful copy of the original C.S. Richmond musket. Manufactured by the Richmond Armory from 1861 to 1865, the C.S. Richmond Musket, noted for its accuracy, was produced in larger numbers than all other Confederate long arms manufactured during the Civil War, for a total of 31,000 rifles, 5,400 carbines and 1,350 short rifles. Features a one-piece barrel of forged steel with “VP” and an eagle head stamped to the left of the breech. Markings on the lock are “1862” to the left of the hammer and “C.S. RICHMOND, VA” to the right of the hammer. The one-piece stock is oil-finished walnut. Features a brass nose cap. NSSA approved.
In 1861, the Confederacy captured the Union-held town of Harper’s Ferry in western Virginia, and salvaged the machinery used to manufacture the Springfield Model 1855 muskets. Confederate troops captured 33,993 black walnut stocks with the machinery. The machinery and stocks were delivered to Richmond and the rifling machinery was transferred to the Fayetteville Arsenal.
