Description
Brass-US Infantry Officer buttons. These are the correct Civil War style with the flat shield and “I”. As per U.S. Army Regulation 1464: “For Officers of Artillery, Infantry, and Calvary–gilt, convex; device, a spread eagle with the letter A, for Artillery–I, for Infantry– C, for Cavalry, on the shield; large size, seven-eighths of an inch in exterior diameter; small size, one-half inch”. These buttons were sometimes purchased by the men and used on enlisted uniforms as well. Numbers of this type are also found on Confederate officer and enlisted uniforms.
