Description
This is an Excellent type one bolster conversion of a smooth bore 1816 musket flintlock. This is a Hewes and Phillips style conversion, but not signed by them so likely an unknown contractor. The bore is smooth and is bright and shinny with no pitting. The lock has deep clear markings “Springfield 1821, eagle and US”. The barrel also has a deep clear “P” in oval raised cartouche. Bolster is unmarked. It has a early style (1855-1861) rear sight that has original bluing. The front band has the added steel front sight. The steel has an attractive steel finish. The stock is dark with sharp edges. It has 2 inspector viable cartouches. Action is excellent. This is in outstanding condition and would make a nice addition to any collection. will also make an excellent shooter.
