Description
The musician hat pin was likely worn proudly by over 40,000 musicians during the Civil War. Recruits were 16 years old with an equal number of 15 year olds, and at least 300 boys were 13 or less. Records even highlight that there were at least 25 boys no older than 10 years. These boys were made up of orphans who made the Army their home and since they couldn’t carry a heavy rifle, they were given a drum, fife or bugle. Of note, 22 Musicians, Drummers and Buglers were awarded the Medal of Honor during the Civil War.
Solid cast brass. Approximately 7/8″ wide and 1″ tall.
