Description
This cap and ball percussion handgun is a Civil War specimen of the Remington-Beals Navy model produced in 1861-1862. Approximately 14,500 of these percussion revolvers were produced and in .36 caliber with unmarked solid frame and unrebated six-shot cylinder. Screw-on barrel is octagonal and measures 7½” long with no barrel threads visible at the breech end of the frame, as the frame conceals all the threads. Grips are original two-piece walnut in very good, no government inspector cartouche, and the initials “N.K.” are carved onto the bottom. The five-digit serial number #12713 is strongly stamped into the bottom facet of the barrel, above the loading lever, and the grip frame. Barrel shows traces of original bluing. Barrel markings clear and reads “BEALS PATENT SEPT. 14, 1858 / MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS, ILION, NY.”.
Original colors are still present on the receiver frame. Sidearm features a brass trigger guard, steel backstrap and the high hammer spur. Original screws are not buggered. Mechanics are crisp and tight. Cylinder is plain with no safety notches and shows normal slight scoring along the circumference of the notches. All original nipples. Revolver mechanics strong and crisp. A must-have for any revolver aficionado!
