Description

This is the  regimental flag of the 10th Tennessee (aka the “Bloody 10th” for the heavy losses it sustained in the fighting at Ft. Donaldson), formed in April 1861 in Nashville.  This highly decorative flag prominently features an Irish harp with shamrocks surrounded by the phrase “Sons of Erin – Go Where Glory Waits You!” Although the 10th Tennessee was considered one of the best equipped regiments in the war’s Western Theater, its troops were armed at this time with flintlock muskets from the War of 1812. Of the original members of the Sons of Erin, only four were still fighting in 1865 when the war ended.  Of the 720 original volunteers, 121 were causalities–30 killed and 91 wounded.
