Description

This is an original Model 1888 full length 32 5/5 inch, 45-70 caliber Barrel, Bayonet mechanism mounting base and Front Sight base. It has nice bluing with a small amount of patina mix.  The rear sight mounting screws and barrel threads are in excellent condition. The bore has extremely deep rifling for a Springfield 45-70. The bore needs to be cleaned in the grooves as there is lead, corrosion and dirt. The lands are clean with a few minor areas of scattered light pitting, It appears with some cleaning the groves would be in the same condition. This can be used to restore and original M 1888 Ram Rod Bayonet rifle or  build a nice carbine or custom rifle. The barrel will be 38 inches if it is cut to remove the front portion with the bayonet mechanism.
